What makes a product right for a Hylda woman?

Here’s how we choose… Our beauty writers are experts in their field and have years of experience writing about the best in beauty. They will only recommend products that they know will make a difference and help with the symptoms caused by the fluctuations of the menopause years. Our reviews are honest – they are not paid for by the brands. We might earn some affiliate commission if you choose to buy the product, but we are not paid by the brands to put them in the article. Never ever. Picked by experts and chosen just for you, that’s our Hylda promise.

Best for firming: Vichy Neovadiol Phytosculpt Face and Neck Cream, £25.60

Vichy

Why it’s a great buy: Vichy’s Neovadiol anti aging skincare range is specifically targeted at menopausal skin. Which is all of us. As well as a moisturiser for mature skin, the range has several game-changing products, from an elixir to a lip and eye contour cream.

What we love about it: The face and neck cream is formulated with Phytosterol to improve elasticity and Pro Xylane to firm and smooth.

What we don’t love quite so much: Some reviews say it can feel quite heavy on the skin.

Best for the eye area: Healthspan Replenish Eye Serum, £13.95

Healthspan

Why it’s a great buy: Healthspan uses phytoestrogens and plant-derived hormones to visibly lift and firm the eye area.

What we love about it: If you’ve had a sleepless night, this eye serum reduces puffiness and makes you look a bit more awake. It’s also very affordable.

What we don’t love quite so much: It can be hard to get hold of.

Best for collagen boosting: Phytomone Pause Hydra Creme, £128

Phytomone Pause Hydra

Why it’s a great buy: Phytomone was created by founder Jane Atherton in 2014. When she began going through perimenopause she realised how few skincare products on the market were formulated specifically for her needs. She couldn’t find her perfect moisturiser for mature skin so she created one.

What we love about it: The Pause Hydra Cream promises to boost collagen and leave even the driest skin soft and dewy.

What we don’t love quite so much: The price.

Best for cooling: Megs Menopause Rosey Rain, £15

Megs Menopause Rosey Rain, £15

Why it’s a great buy: Following a difficult time with her own menopause, Meg Mathews created her own beauty line. It contains this cooling spray which tackles hot flushes. Apply it liberally throughout the day and store in the fridge where possible.

What we love about it: Infused with natural rose oil and marshmallow extract (all vegan), this refreshing spray is also hydrating.

What we don’t love quite so much: It has quite a strong rose scent that some customers might not like.

Best for restoring: Look Fabulous Forever Hydration Hold Face Serum, £42

Lookfabulous

Why it’s a great buy: Tricia Cusden, 68, founded skincare and makeup line Look Fabulous Forever from her home. She also has a beauty blog for older women. Nourishing, lightweight and fast-absorbing, the serum is the stand out product.

What we love about it: Containing hydrolyzed hyaluronic acid and provitamin B5, it repairs your skin’s barrier while increasing firmness.

What we don’t love quite so much: If you prefer an ordinary pump, you might not like the pipette.
