My Midlife Survival Kit: Kirstie Clements

For former Vogue Australia editor in chief Kirstie Clements midlife is enhanced with natural skincare, tarot cards and a stylish cup of tea.

What does a former Vogue editor in chief swear by when it comes to choosing her favourite products for midlife? For Kirstie Clements, who sat at the editor’s desk at Vogue Australia for 13 years, it’s an intriguing mix of the glamorous and the esoteric.

Kirstie, who has just published her latest book Why Did I Buy That? Fashion Mistakes, Life Lessons, is both a beauty geek and a lover of tarot card reading. We said it was an interesting mix!

As someone who has been vocal about the less attractive face of the fashion industry (models on hospital drips to stay thin, for example) but who is also a beloved follower of fashion and style, Kirstie always has a grown up and interesting point of view.

Over to you to share the five products in your Midlife Survival Kit, Kirstie.

Susanne Kaufmann Glow Mask, £59

I’ve always been serious about skincare, it’s my happy place. I have recently discovered a wonderful range, Susanne Kaufmann. It’s all natural, very soothing, comes in glass bottles and jars and is made in the Austrian/Swiss Alps.

The Glow Mask has a beautiful, subtle scent, it feels very lavish. I accept that I’m getting wrinkles, but you can still have healthy, hydrated skin.

Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream SPF 30, £30

I wear less makeup nowadays, but a tinted sunscreen is a daily must, especially in Australia. I love Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream SPF 30. I also wear it on my decolletage, the backs of hands and my forearms. The sun here is so brutal.

Wedgwood Jasper Conran Chinoiserie Green Teacup & Saucer, £70

Wedgwood

With lockdown and isolation and all the time spent at home in the last two years, I found small rituals very comforting: Like making endless cups of herbal tea.

I love drinking tea in lovely cups, especially Hermes or Wedgwood. It makes the experience 10 times more pleasurable.

The Original Rider Waite Tarot Deck, £14.99

I’ve been reading the Tarot as a hobby for years. It’s become a very healing, nurturing thing to do with friends, to read their cards and discuss things going on in their life.

I was given a new Rider Waite deck for Christmas, and my readings on fire!
